Solvent extraction of copper(II) with ortho-hydroxyximes—II. Effect of aliphatic oximes on extraction kinetics
Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, Vol.42(3), pp.441-447
1980
Abstract
The effect of several types of α-substituted aliphatic oximes (HB) on the rate of extraction of copper(II) from acidic perchlorate media by an aromatic ortho-hydroxyoxime (HA) has been investigated. No correlation was found between the relative basicities of the aliphatic oximes, determined by non-aqueous titration, and their effect on extraction kinetics. Only those compounds which themselves possess the ability to extract copper were found to exhibit an accelerating influence on the extraction. It is probable that the mechanism of catalysis involves the initial formation of a mixed complex of the type CuAB which subsequently undergoes a ligand displacement reaction in the organic phase to give the CuA2 species. The importance of interfacial processes in explaining the roles of both catalysts and inhibitors is emphasised.
