Abstract

The scope of rapid a.c. polarographic measurements for the determination of stability constants in precipitating solutions has been investigated. Successful determination is governed by precipitation kinetics which are not related to the solubility product. Consequently, the applicability of this technique must be determined experimentally. The method has been shown to be potentially valuable for obtaining information which might otherwise be inaccessible. Stability constants are reported for the lead(II)-sulphate, cadmium(II)- and thallium(I)-iodate, and thallium(I)-bromide systems. The possibility of determinating stability constants for other sparingly soluble systems is demonstrated.
