Abstract
The important anthracyclinone intermediate, 2-acetyl-5,8-dimethoxytetralin, has been synthesized in five
steps in an overall yield of 51 % starting from 5,8-dihydroxy-1 ,4-dihydronaphthalene. Since all the steps are
straightforward the method lends itself to muhigram synthesis.
