Abstract

According to the International School Consultancy group (ISC, 2016), the total number of English medium international schools has increased to 8,204 with a student population of over 4 million.Unlike Australia however, there is no common curriculum, teacher professional standards or adequate dataset about international schooling as a collective.[...]there is also considerable debate about what constitutes international education and schooling (Hill, 2006; Hayden, Levy & Thompson, 2016) and indeed how it fits within current research fields and national schooling contexts. The most common areas of reference revealed in publications during this period of time related to; the general growth of the IB, the Diploma Programme, international mindedness, teaching and leadership, the impact and implementation of the IB, student performance, language, pedagogy and access.Generally, there has been a rise in the number of quantitative and mixed method studies about the IB that use data from student performance on various assessment measures including but not limited to; International Schools Assessment (ISA), National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).
