Abstract

γ-Ray irradiation induced multiple effects on properties of bulk Ge-As-Se chalcogenide glasses were studied. Density (ρ), thermal expansion coefficient (α) and optical band gap (E opt ) of samples changed after irradiation, depending on glass compositions. Glasses with stoichiometric compositions showed linear correlations between As 2 Se 3 proportion and irradiation sensitivity while nonstoichiometric glasses exhibited irregular variations. The phenomena were discussed in terms of chemical bonds transition and structural evolution under γ-ray irradiation. These results show the future of selenium-based chalcogenide glass applied as dosimetric material.
