Abstract
This book is likely to rate as one of the three milestones in the study of Brehon Law, ranking alongside the Ancient Laws of Ireland (Dublin, 1865-1901) which made available large portions of the laws in translation, and the Corpus Iuris Hibernici (Dublin, 1978) which gave access to specialists to the raw data of the manuscripts. Until now, the publication of research on Brehon Law has been depressingly diffuse. It appears in an array of mainly linguistic journals (a fair part of it in German), each article offering isolated fragments of information. However, when collected and collated from these many sources, the current state of research reflects the impressive depth and significant scope of the surviving materials for native law.
