Abstract

This project is part of the Revitalising Geographe Waterways’ Integrated Ecological Monitoring Study. The benthic macroinvertebrate index component aims to: (i)Determine the characteristics of the subtidal benthic macroinvertebrate community (i.e. community metrics) that best reflect differences in the environmental condition of the Vasse-Wonnerup, using all available macroinvertebrate samples collected during previous years of monitoring. (ii) Combine these responsive metrics into a new index to assess benthic ecological condition of the system and calculate season and region-specific reference conditions. (iii) Evaluate how index values change through time and in response to water quality. (iv) Create a report card that summarises index scores as letter grades of health (A-E) to assist future monitoring of the Vasse-Wonnerup.
