About me

My research focus is on the prevention treatment and control of parasitic diseases in wildlife, humans, livestock and companion animal. I have a particular interest in zoonotic parasites (those transmitted between animals and humans) and understanding how best to mitigate transmission in specific environments.

Over the past 10 years I have been conducting research in Lao PDR on the zoonotic tapeworm Taenia solium and Soil Transmitted Helminths. This work has revealed the complexities of achieving sustainable control of infectious diseases linked with cultural behaviours, traditional farming practices and poverty. Intervention strategies for environments such as these require co-ordinated multisectoral actions from the medical, veterinary, agricultural, and social science sectors.
