About me

Associate Professor Ann-Maree Vallence is an interdisciplinary researcher and academic leader whose work spans psychology, neuroscience, physiology and clinical medicine. Her research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying movement impairment in ageing, injury and neurological disease, and translating this knowledge into novel neurorehabilitation and non-invasive brain stimulation interventions. She has secured $3.9 million in nationally competitive research funding, including $1.9 million as Lead Investigator, and her research has informed international clinical neurophysiology guidelines and evidence-based approaches to movement rehabilitation. Her program of research has produced significant contributions to both basic human neurophysiology and translational clinical research, with outcomes that improve understanding, management and treatment of movement impairments.

Alongside her research, Ann-Maree has demonstrated sustained leadership in research training, academic governance and research capacity building. As Head of Graduate Research Training and Education at Murdoch University, she leads University-wide initiatives that strengthen HDR supervision, doctoral assessment and research quality. She has held senior leadership roles including Associate Dean Research and Innovation, Academic Chair for Honours and Postgraduate Research Chair, leading strategic initiatives that have strengthened research culture, mentorship, inclusion and institutional performance. Her service extends nationally through leadership roles in professional societies, research mentoring programs and discipline-based networks that support collaboration, researcher development and research excellence.
