About me
Current Unit Coordinator of a 3rd-year complex care unit NUR357. I have a heart for providing students with "real experiences" through Hi-Fi simulations and enjoy outreach in schools, inspiring the next generation to be nurses.
Teaching philosophy:
I believe that if I role model my values of kindness and empathy, be approachable, share my “human” experiences (mistakes included) and how I reflect on my practice, students will naturally want to be the same. When nursing students have respect for their teacher, they are more engaged, they learn and then once nurses have the knowledge they can begin to think critically. A nurse that can critically think can advocate for their patients and save lives. My teaching style is to read the room through emotional intelligence and simplify complex medical jargon to reduce cognitive load to meet outcomes. I create a conduit from the 'real world" to the classroom through shared experiences to keep engagement. I believe I can have just as great an impact on the students and the type of nurse they will want to become through teaching as I can as a nurse.
