About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of HASS, who writes about History and Politics. My key research areas are the prosecutions of Japanese war criminals conducted by the Allied powers after the Second World War, relations among Australia, the United States and Japan in the 1950s, and Australia's defence diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific Region. I was awarded an Academy of the Humanities Travelling Fellowship in 2016, and an Army Research Scheme grant ($48k) in 2020. My work on war crimes and war crimes trials has been nationally and internationally recognised, and I was the winner of the 2017 N.S.W. Premier’s History Award (General History category), and a finalist for the 2019 Raphael Lemkin Book Award. My current research project is an evaluation of the effectiveness of war crimes law, from its early development to the present day.
