About me

My primary research centres on the methods we use to measure educational outcomes and student achievement, both formatively and summatively, and the resulting decisions and actions we make. I am particularly interested in models of assessment and evaluation in public education and professional learning contexts (e.g., education, medical education), and classroom and large-scale assessment from both practical and policy perspectives. This work includes international work (e.g., Tanzania, Mexico, New Zealand) and several program evaluation projects, commonly related to initiatives supported by Ministries of Education. My work is strengthened by a repertoire of research methods and skills, including statistical methods, item response theory, generalizability theory, and hierarchical linear modeling. Throughout, I work to build connections amongst academic and professional communities, sharing my expertise and questions with professional organisations in order to better promote and facilitate the use of educational research and to improve educational systems.
