About me

Eric is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Chair for Contemporary Mental Health at Murdoch University. A credentialed mental health nurse and Fellow of both the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and the Higher Education Academy, he is widely recognised for his leadership in mental health nursing and was awarded the Australian Mental Health Nurse of the Year in 2026.

With more than 20 years of clinical and academic experience, Eric’s work centres on recovery‑focused mental health care for individuals experiencing mental illness, trauma, and complex psychosocial stressors, including migration, cultural and linguistic discrimination, racism, and acculturation. His research has established a national and international reputation in the mental health of vulnerable and underrepresented populations, particularly young people, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD), and culturally and racially marginalised (CaRM) communities.

Eric also contributes to sector governance and lived‑experience partnerships as a member of the FSFHG Consumer Advisory Council, representing the CaLD portfolio.

As an Early Career Researcher, Eric has secured approximately $1.27 million in competitive research funding as both Chief Investigator and Associate Investigator. Notably, he is CI(A) on a 2022 Healthway Open Exploratory Research Grant. His program of work continues to shape contemporary mental health practice, education, and policy.
