About me

John Bassett is an educator who's professional practice was in live sound as an operator and sound system designer/builder. A career spanning 30 years, including 19 years at the Sydney Opera House.

In that time John has also worked as a recording engineer and producer and also as an Acoustician, consulting on projects ranging from environmental impact assessments, bell tower acoustics through to listening room/recording studio design.

Currently he is Senior Consultant at Praxis Acoustics.

As an educator John has taught at Post-graduate, Undergraduate and Community education levels in institutions such as the Australian Institute of Music, The University of Sydney, the School of Audio Engineering, Sydney Conservatorium, University of Technology, Sydney and the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand.


John’s research interest ranges from auditorium acoustics, ambisonics capture and representation of sound fields through to the acoustics of bell towers.
