About me
Prof. Ma is an aquatic ecologist and environmental scientist whose research integrates freshwater ecology, environmental assessment, and sustainable aquaculture innovation. He holds a PhD in Aquatic Science from Murdoch University and brings extensive experience across academia, government, and environmental management sectors.
His research centres on freshwater invertebrate ecology, aquatic ecosystem health, and the development of smart aquaculture systems for native species. He is currently contributing and collaborating on research focused on marron, Western Australia’s iconic freshwater crayfish, including both Cherax cainii and the critically important Cherax tenuimanus, alongside other native species such as yabbies (Cherax destructor).
In addition, Prof. Ma actively contributes to projects in freshwater biodiversity conservation, water resource management, and restoration ecology, working at the interface of science, policy, and industry to support evidence-based environmental outcomes.
