About me
Liana Luyt is a Lecturer at the School of Education at Murdoch University and has a focus on initial teacher education, specifically in the areas of Inclusive Support and Special Education. Liana’s teaching expertise and interests lie in educating pre-service teachers on how to support all students to thrive in school, with a particular focus on those with diverse needs through the provision of effective inclusive education.
Liana is an early career researcher with research expertise in the area of teaching and learning programs that go beyond knowledge development and capability building. Liana seeks to better understand how new curricula and effective pedagogies educate the whole child for an ever-changing world and society. This, combined with her interest in diversity, inclusion and education support, underpins her research agenda she enthusiastically pursues. Liana’s research is pragmatic, and through it, she endeavours to make practical and tangible contributions to the broad field of Education.
In addition to her teaching qualification and doctoral research, Liana also holds a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, which she obtained overseas. Prior to joining Murdoch University’s School of Education, she was a teacher working in Western Australian independent schools. This work included holding the roles of Head of Primary and Deputy Principal. Liana has led curriculum development and inclusive education reforms across a range of education settings (within both primary and secondary phases of schooling). She has delivered many professional development sessions for teachers with a particular focus on curriculum development and inclusive education. Liana continues to explore new ways to advance all aspects of teaching and learning, including through her own expanding knowledge and practice. She is currently developing new initiatives to deliver initial teacher education in collaboration with leaders and teachers within education support centres and schools. In 2024, Liana completed a Certificate of Learning and Teaching to achieve Associate Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy and continues to explore new ways of contributing to teaching and learning at all levels.
