About me
Liberty Carter is a Lecturer in the School of Education at Murdoch University and an experienced secondary Humanities teacher and curriculum leader. His teaching focuses on initial teacher education, particularly secondary Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum and pedagogy, with strengths in curriculum planning, assessment design, reflective practice, and connecting theory to classroom practice.
Alongside his university role, Liberty brings extensive school-based experience in Western Australia, including leadership in Humanities and senior secondary Geography teaching. This practice-informed background shapes his work with pre-service teachers and underpins his commitment to preparing graduates for the realities of contemporary classrooms.
Liberty is currently completing a Doctor of Education at Murdoch University. His research examines how Sub-Saharan African migrant teachers in Australian schools perceive and navigate school culture, and how these experiences relate to participation, self-efficacy, and professional identity. His broader research interests include school culture, teacher identity, migrant teacher experiences, and issues of equity, belonging, and recognition in education.
