S. H. Shah Newaz is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technology at Murdoch University, Australia. Before joining Murdoch University, he served as a sessional academic at Monash University and CQUniversity in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to that, he was a Lecturer and later an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Network and Security at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Brunei Darussalam. At UTB, he also held the position of Deputy Dean in the Graduate Studies and Research Office from 2022 to 2025. He was also an Adjunct Professor at KAIST, South Korea, from 2017 to 2022. He served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) from August 2013 to July 2016. Newaz received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from KAIST in 2010 and 2013, respectively. While pursuing his Ph.D. at KAIST, he worked as a visiting researcher at Telecom SudParis (TSP), France.
Newaz has written and co-authored more than 90 publications in prestigious international journals, conferences, and book chapters, including IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, IEEE Internet Computing, Elsevier Computer Networks, IEEE Communications Letters, Elsevier Applied Energy, Elsevier Optical Fiber Technology (OFT), IEEE Access, ACM SIGCOMM, IEEE WCNC, and IEEE VTC. His research interests include optical and wireless access networks, network softwarization, IoT, edge/fog computing, cybersecurity (trust, access control, and data integrity), smart grids, and content delivery networks. Newaz is a member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and a Senior Member of IEEE.
