Dr Sid Murthy

I view accounting as a powerful lens through which one can examine how leadership decisions and governance frameworks shape corporate behaviour and influence both financial and non-financial reporting. As a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Murdoch Business School, I teach a range of accounting units that address both foundational disciplines and contemporary issues in the field.

My academic journey began with a PhD from Deakin University, where I explored the influence of CEO psychological traits on corporate outcomes such as earnings forecasts, dividend policies, and labour-related lawsuits.

Prior to joining Murdoch University, I was a Sessional Academic at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where I gained valuable experience in delivering engaging, research-led learning experiences.

My research focuses on financial accounting, corporate governance, management psychology, and sustainability reporting. I have attended conferences, published in a peer-reviewed journal, and have several working papers currently under review with reputable academic journals.

Beyond academia, I have worked in venture capital and private equity, and a few years ago, I completed a consulting development program for a client in the electrical industry. I am deeply committed to bridging academic research with practical application, and to supporting students as they grow into thoughtful, capable professionals equipped for the complexities of modern accounting.
