Dr Victoria Mason

Dr Victoria Mason (she/her) is a Senior Lecturer in the area of Human Rights, Middle East Politics and International Affairs. Her research traverses the fields of human rights, peace and conflict studies, critical security studies and the politics of international law. Dr Mason has a special interest in the Middle East, the Question of Palestine, refugees, gender equality, the LGBTQI+ community and wider social justice issues.

Dr Mason is currently completing a monograph entitled "Betwixt and Between: Palestine, International Law, and the Geopolitics of Liminality".

She is available for media commentary relating to human rights issues, Middle East politics and wider social justice issues and debates.

Dr Mason has been awarded multiple teaching awards in recognition of her achievements in providing excellent research-led and student-centred teaching and learning.

Dr Mason previously held tenured positions at the Australian National University (Canberra) and Lancaster University (UK). She has been awarded a number of grants for her research, including from the British Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and the-then Australian Agency of International Development (AusAID). She has also been awarded numerous smaller grants from organisations such as the International Studies Association (ISA) and the British Academy.

Dr Mason supervises postgraduate research projects relating to human rights, social justice issues, forced migration (asylum seekers, refugees and stateless individuals), Middle East politics and animal welfare/animal rights in politics.
