About me

Dr Victoria Mason (she/her) is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and Global Studies. Her research traverses the fields of human rights, peace and conflict studies, critical security studies, and the politics of international law, with a special interest in the Middle East, the Question of Palestine, refugees and social justice issues. She has published across these topics.

Dr Mason teaches the following units:

POL133: Politics, Policy and Power

POL334: Middle East Politics and Security

POL306: The Politics of Human Rights

POL226: Sex and Gender Matters

GOV612: Global Governance, Security and Economy

She has been awarded multiple teaching awards in recognition of her achievements in providing excellent research-led and student-centred teaching and learning.

Dr Mason previously held tenured positions at the Australian National University (Canberra) and Lancaster University (UK). She has been awarded a number of grants for her research, including from the British Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and the-then Australian Agency of International Development (AusAID). She has also been awarded numerous smaller grants from organisations such as the International Studies Association (ISA) and the British Academy.

Dr Mason welcomes supervising postgraduate research projects relating to human rights, social justice issues, forced migration (asylum seekers, refugees and stateless individuals), Middle East politics and animal welfare/animal rights in politics.
