Abstract
As educators, we should be seeking to improve our practice in order to become more effective teachers. One of our most important responsibilities is to structure and deliver Literacy to the students in such a way that it leads to maximum retention and application of learnt concepts. A very effective way to achieve this is by implementing a Balanced Literacy Approach in the classroom, which can be easily facilitated by using picture books. This article, published in the conference magazine, practically explores how to use picture books as the focal point in creating rich and contextually connected literacy lessons.
