About me
Clare Walters is a nursing academic in the School of Nursing at Murdoch University. She has previously held senior leadership roles within the School, including Undergraduate Academic Chair and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching. Clare is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and is currently a PhD candidate.
Clare’s academic work focuses on curriculum design, assessment, and the development of supportive learning environments for nursing students. She works closely with colleagues across the School to support the delivery and review of accredited units, contribute to curriculum renewal, and ensure alignment with professional and regulatory requirements. Her experience also includes supporting early-career academics through probation processes, as well as involvement in student progression, intermission, and academic support processes.
A significant area of Clare’s work is student support and academic resilience. She has led the development and implementation of targeted support initiatives, including the ASSIST and PILLAR programs, which support students undertaking a third attempt at a unit and those on Academic Performance Plans for poor progression. Her approach to student support emphasises early intervention, reflective practice, and practical strategies to address common challenges, including workload management, academic skills development, and wellbeing.
Clare’s research interests are centred on stress, coping, and moral distress within emergency nursing, with a focus on creating constructive change at both individual and organisational levels. Her doctoral research explores these issues using a mixed-methods approach.
