About me

Summary

Clare Wood is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD), having studied the Master's in Nutrition and Dietetics at Curtin University, WA. She has worked in the elite sporting environment for much of her career, holding the accreditation of an Advanced Sports Dietitian, and is currently a lecturer in Food Science and Nutrition at Murdoch University. Her teaching at Murdoch draws from her extensive background of experience as a practitioner. She also holds qualifications in biochemistry, having graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in Biochemistry.

Teaching

Clare teaches two nutrition-specific units in the third year of the Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Nutrition. Advanced Nutrition is delivered in Semester 1, and Food and Nutrition in the Community is delivered in Semester 2. FSN300 Advanced Nutrition addresses the range of nutritional needs throughout the human life cycle, from conception and pregnancy, through childhood, and into older adulthood.

FSN304 Food and Nutrition in the Community is a health promotion unit based on the broad factors of essential public health policy.

Clare consistently receives exceptional teaching reports, which has led to a college teaching award in 2025. She has achieved the status of Associate Fellowship in Teaching after undertaking the Learning and Teaching Certificate in 2023.

Service

Clare is heavily involved in being a part of the Murdoch campus. She is involved in delivering keynote nutrition presentations to the Kulbardi K-Track program. She has also taken a keen interest in the sustainability work that is being done on campus, and has presented at the Sustainability Forum on the inclusion of sustainability in her FSN304 unit.

Background

Clare's work in sports nutrition has seen her working multiple institutes of sport with Australia's top Olympic level athletes who are striving for gold, at Richmond AFL football club, at the Western Australian Cricket Association and Cricket Australia with international-level players. She is also consulting to a mining company within the health and wellness space.

Research

Clare has been involved in several research projects within the area of elite sport and will be changing her focus at Murdoch to align with the Food Science and Nutrition area. Watch this space.
