About me
Kate is Professor at Murdoch University. Before joining academia, Kate was a senior associate at the transport and insurance division of the Perth office of Phillips Fox (as it then was). She practised primarily in the areas of insurance (both marine and general), carriage of goods, admiralty and general transport law.
Kate’s interests extend to all things maritime. Kate has written many articles spanning shipping law, insurance law, admiralty law, carriage of passengers by sea (including crimes at sea) and regulating emissions from ships. Kate is the author of the monograph International Carriage of Passengers by Sea (published by Sweet & Maxwell, London.) From 2006 – 2022, Kate was the Director of the annual International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot, a competition for law students worldwide. Kate has been general editor of the MLAANZ journal Australian and New Zealand Maritime Law Journal. In 2020 Kate was appointed a Director of the Fremantle Port Authority. Kate is an Academic Fellow at the Centre for Maritime Law, Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, where she has taught a specialist course in Carriage of Passengers by Sea.
