Unit
02/2024The Thesis Project provides students with the opportunity to apply their skills acquired during the course on a substantial project. Specifically, students will examine, analyse and report on a design task, undertake the necessary research and/or design practice to produce a solution/outcome for the set task and present the results/findings of the work through both verbal presentations and a report.
Unit
07/2023This unit provides students with a sustained engineering project under the guidance of an experienced supervisor. This capstone unit involves project specification, design, implementation, testing, documentation, demonstration and presentation. Projects will contain significant background research and be selected on the basis of their novelty and innovation. Students may undertake projects on campus or on placement with industry partners. Students must prepare project plans, literature review reports, final thesis reports, deliver seminars describing outcomes and attend regular meetings with supervisors as required.
Unit
02/2023The unit develops core skills and practices that are needed by a professional engineer. These include strong time management, portfolios, reflective practice, and ethics alongside technical skills in:
- problem-solving and formal logic;
- considerations for design (material selection, user considerations, accessibility, sustainability, manufacturing);
- engineering drawing and computer-aided design (CAD);
- rapid prototyping
