Refugees in Indonesia who are concerned about suicides within their communities have made direct requests for research and engagement on this topic. This project responds to these requests. It aims to fulfil an urgent need for increased understanding of suicide incidence, risk and protective factors among refugee communities in living in LMICs such as Indonesia. The research will address both refugees’ own limited capacity to respond to suicidal individuals as well as the limited response to refugee suicides from key stakeholders (governments, UNHCR, IOM and NGOs). The interdisciplinary project team brings together expertise from psychology, sociology, law and anthropology, as well as lived experience of forced migration in Indonesia.
