About me

Renita Almeida is a Clinical Psychologist and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Murdoch University. She completed a PhD with Distinction at the University of Western Australia, which examined superior visual search capabilities demonstrated by individuals with autism. She received the national Excellent PhD Thesis in Psychology prize awarded by the Australian Psychological Society (APS). 

Following her postgraduate training, Renita completed advanced family therapy training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in New York. Since returning to Australia, Renita has worked in private practice and in the public sector (Consultant Clinical Psychology Director at KEMH, and as a Clinical Psychologist in various government departments, including Department of Corrective Services, Department of Child Protection and Family Support, Department of Health), gaining clinical experience in both metro and rural settings. Renita is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia with an area of endorsed practice in Clinical Psychology. She is also a PBA-approved supervisor registered with AHPRA.

At Murdoch University Renita has been involved in roles such as: Director of the Murdoch Psychology Child and Family Clinic, Academic Chair of the Masters in Applied Psychology (Professional), Unit Coordinator of Child, Youth, and Family Internal Practicum (PSY537), Clinical Psychology: Working with Children and Families (PSY664) and Professional Psychology Practicum 2 (PSY608). Renita has strong research interest in the areas of perinatal and infant mental health, child development, attachment, trauma, reflective functioning, and family-based interventions. She is currently involved in clinical research focused on developing and evaluating attachment-based parenting programs.
