Trying to define play is like trying to catch the sky in a jar. You might get a piece, but it will only ever be a reduction of the greater meaning you already hold. Because play, like love, is inextricable from human experience and it exists, and acts, before and beyond words.

Nature Play WA have called for those West Australians who are passionate about the value of play in the lives of children to endorse the recently released WA Play Charter, and to do their part to help elevate play into the deliberations of decision makers, and to propel a community conversation about why play matters for children.

Formal schooling too early may be a counterproductive step

The WA Play Charter, drafted by the Play Matters Collective, is a declaration of the importance of play in children’s lives. By endorsing the WA Play Charter you are signalling your shared belief in the fundamental value of play to children’s health, happiness and development, and putting up your hand to support a more playful world for the children in your care and in your community.
